Consultation Services for Children (CSC) offers Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation services to early education and care programs located in forty-seven Central MA, Metro Boston and Southeast towns.
History
Consultation Services for Children is one of six Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation programs in Massachusetts funded by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). The program, established in 2010, is based on the Pyramid Model for Promoting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children developed by two national, federally funded research and training centers: The Center for the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) and Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Youth Children (TACSEI).
Program Description
CSC consultants form collaborative relationships with early childhood educators and families to support their capacity for preventing and addressing challenging behaviors within the classroom. Using a hybrid on-site/virtual model, consultants:
- Provide program, classroom and child focused consultation offering strategies and resources that promote the development of positive social-emotional skills.
- Educate program staff and families on developmental expectations and identifying risk factors.
- Utilize strength-based social-emotional screening tools and complete observations.
- Facilitate reflective practice and collaborate to develop a Service Delivery Plan, which embraces the program and educator goals, and identifies shared strategies, resources, community-based referrals and evidenced-based interventions.
Staff
Consultation Services for Children employs three full-time, licensed, masters-level, mental health clinicians with experience in early intervention, behavioral health, social-work, childcare program management and reflective practice in early education.
